Character History

One of the villains complaining about The Guild of Calamitous Intent's state of disarray in the episode Hostile Makeover , Purple Rose[1] wanted to see more people of color on the newly reformed Council of 13.[2]

He was present at the Guild of Calamitous Intent meeting where the Council of 13 put out a bounty for the capture of the second Blue Morpho.[3] When he suggested they get pitchforks like in Dracula, Hogfish corrected him by saying it was Frankenstein.

  • "Purple Rose" is a reference to Pete Rose, a former Hall of Fame star thrown out because of his gambling on baseball games. The baseball uniform he wears is based on the Philadelphia Phillies uniform that Pete Rose wore during the late 1970s and early '80s.
  • Purple Rose's baseball uniform also looks similar to the gang uniform worn by The Baseball Furies in the 1979 movie The Warriors.
  • In floriography, a form of cryptological communication through the use or arrangement of flowers, a purple colored rose usually means enchantment or love at first sight.
  • The Purple Rose of Cairo was a 1985 Woody Allen film about a character named Tom Baxter who leaves a fictional film called The Purple Rose of Cairo and enters the real world.
