L. Ron Hubbard is a minor villainous character from The Venture Bros. Appearing thus far in only a single flashback sequence in the episode Spanakopita!, L. Ron was an enemy of Jonas Venture Sr. and the original Team Venture. Hubbard was based off of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, incorporating ideas such as Thetans and Engrams and apparently using the Sea Org to supply his henchmen.
History[]
In 1968, L. Ron kidnapped former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis on her second wedding on the Greek islands. Jonas, the Action Man, and Colonel Gentleman did battle with L. Ron and his henchpersons aboard a ship in a drive to save Jackie O. During the battle, L. Ron used a robotic body to fight Jonas, and at least one of his henchmen wielded an engram ray gun.
Jonas and Team Venture were successful in saving Jackie O. However, as L. Ron vacated the robot housing his ghost-like form, L. Ron revealed that the kidnapping was all just a ploy to distract them from L. Ron's simultaneous attack on the Apollo 7 mission. A bomb in the robotic body began counting down, and Team Venture vacated the boat just before the bomb exploded.
In Faking Miracles, it is revealed (at least in the in-universe comic book of the Venture Bros. issue 36) that the Blue Morpho helped Jonas do battle with L. Ron at some point. L. Ron's surname is also confirmed to be Hubbard here.
Trivia[]
- Though not named fully, L. Ron is L. Ron Hubbard, the controversial founder of the Church of Scientology.
- When L. Ron made his villain speech about targeting Apollo 7, Colonel Gentleman expressed concern and noted that "Wally" was on board. This is a reference to Wally Schirra, an astronaut aboard the spacecraft. In Now Museum-Now You Don't, Colonel Gentleman said that he had a threesome with Wally and Gore Vidal.
