Jefferson Twilight is a minor recurring character on The Venture Bros. He is a Blacula hunter, and a member of The Order of the Triad alongside Dr. Orpheus and The Alchemist. He is voiced by Charles Parnell.

Personality and abilities

Jefferson is generally upstanding and calm, and tends to dwell soley on his life's mission of being a Blacula hunter. At times, he has expressed bitterness over the fact that he apparently doesn't have any magical powers and is "just" a blacula hunter; however it is revealed in The Better Man that he has the power to act as a bridge between worlds, seemingly having some level of untapped magical potential. Upon finding out about his new ability, Jefferson becomes very excited and attempts to see if there are any other abilities he possesses, though he has yet to discover any.

Jefferson's skills generally involve mastery of the sword. He is able to wield twin katanas with deadly precision and skill, while (usually) able to avoid casualties. He also possesses a mystical enchantment on his left eye, his "Blood Eye", that allows him to track blaculas, though failing to kill a target seems to leave him in discomfort, what he describes as "blueballs in (his) blood eye". It is also mentioned that he was formerly a tank commander in the Marines, as he is shown to be able to operate heavy vehicles, and also trains carrier pigeons in his spare time.

His vehicle is a specialized hearse called The Blood Vessel which is used by the rest of the Triad as well but they call it the "Triad Mobile." The vessel is armed with weapons to fight off blacula's and has a hidden chamber disguised as a coffin with UV lights to fight off blaculas.

Character History

At the age of ten, Jefferson witnessed his mother being raped and killed by Blacula's. The focus of his life since then is to hunt down and destroy blacula's. After a time as a tank commander in the Marines, he was based in Chicago in an abandoned factory used by other vigilantes. It was during this time where he met and befriended Dr. Orpheus, The Alchemist, and formed the Order of the Triad team. The group disbanded some time after Orpheus had his daughter Triana Orpheus, leaving Twilight to continue hunting blaculas. Jefferson reunites with the rest of The Triad after The Guild approved of Orpheus' numerous petitions for a supervillain archenemy under the mistaken impression that he was a member of a team of heroes. All of the Triad's members seemed happy to reunite, with Jefferson feeling that it would help him better hunt blacula's. The team interviewed numerous applicants for archenemies, including Doctor Girlfriend in her former identity as "Lady Au Pair," but settled on an Australia villain named Torrid.

Following the reformation of The Triad, Jefferson joins Orpehus and The Alchemist on adventures. In The Better Man, Jefferson was killed by a demon Torrid had brought in from hell, but was brought back to life by The Outrider. Following that incident, he begins to train more with cardboard monsters, though he laments that between Orpheus and the Alchemist's magical powers, he will always be the one vulnerable to magical attacks. However, when the rest of the Triad and The Outrider got trapped in the underworld, they were all rescued by Jefferson, whose magic power was found to act as a bridge between worlds.

During A Very Venture Halloween, Jefferson attends the Halloween party hosted by Orpheus while the others raised zombies. However the zombies were destroyed, confronted by The Master (in the form of Santa) who Jefferson and Al were pleased to finally meet.

Jefferson moved with The Triad to New York City, living with them at their new headquarters. In Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart, Jefferson and Orpheus agree to help Dean look for Hank by driving him back to the old Venture Compound in the Blood Vessel. When they stopped over and spent the night at his old base in Chicago, they were attacked by and narrowly escape Nuno Blood and his gang of blaculas. During the battle, Dean pricks his neck against Jefferson's fang necklace, and assumes he was bitten and starts acting like a vampire. They eventually make it to Colorado to find Hank in a coma and stuck in purgatory. Jefferson, using his powers, help Dean and Orpheus reach purgatory to rescue Hank. Jefferson also tells a relived Dean that the bite marks were really from his necklace.

Trivia

  • Jefferson Twilight is a parody of the Marvel Comics vampire hunter Blade and the titular vampire from the 1972 blaxploitation horror film Blacula.
  • Due to lacking magical abilities, Jefferson is the least-seen member of the Order of the Triad, and is never seen without them also being involved.
  • It is implied that he may have diabetes in Showdown at Cremation Creek Part I due to his needing insulin if he eats too much sugar, being particular susceptible to Nickel Nips.
  • Jefferson's necklace is made of fangs removed from blaculas he kills.
