Flying Squid is a squid-themed villain and member of the Guild of Calamitous Intent on The Venture Bros.
Character History[]
Flying Squid was first mentioned during a conversation between Dr. Girlfriend and Phantom Limb in Showdown at Cremation Creek (Part I). Dr. Girlfriend told Limb that several hickies she has from a secret affair with the Monarch are the result of an attack by Flying Squid.
Flying Squid made his first appearance in Bot Seeks Bot, where he accosted Shore Leave for wearing the costume of his missing friend Sri Lankan Devil Bird. However, Brock Samson intervened disguised as Vendata, bullying the Squid into leaving them alone. Flying Squid also called The Monarch and informed him of the capture of Doctor Thaddeus Venture at Don Hell's nightclub.
In The Devil's Grip, Flying Squid and Auntie Matter were seen lounging on lawnchairs with their feet soaking in a kiddie pool. A small squid bearing a resemblance to Flying Squid (though with no human features) also sat in the pool. Since Dr. Mrs. The Monarch had described Auntie Matter as a "spinster who shapechanges" in Return to Malice, it is not clear if this smaller squid represented the result of a romantic union between the pair or if they were merely hanging out with a normal squid resting nearby.
Flying Squid resided in the gated community of Malice, to where he wished to escape the "hippies" and their "progressive rock." In The Devil's Grip, he expressed this displeasure when The Monarch and Dr. Mrs. the Monarch were torturing Dr. Venture with The Bell, mistaking its noise for prog-rock on the order of Mike Oldfield's hit Tubular Bells.
He was present at the Guild meeting in Hostile Makeover when the Council of 13 reformed following the death of The Sovereign and most Council members. He was also at the Guild of Calamitous Intent meeting where the Council of 13 put out a bounty for the capture of the second Blue Morpho.
