Fantômas was a famous adventurer and a founding member of The Guild, the Gilded Age forerunner to the modern Guild of Calamitous Intent.
History
Fantômas was a member of the Guild. He had a uneasy rivalry with his fellow member Colonel Lloyd Venture, especially concerning a mysterious device of great power in the Guild's possession: the Orb. Fantômas had a vested interest in using the Orb to rule the world.
Fantômas was eventually kicked out of the Guild, and formed his own Guild of Calamitous Intent by "recruiting" pop musicians. According to Red Mantle (Buddy Holly) and Dragoon (The Big Bopper)'s unreliable narrative, Fantômas kidnapped musicians to play in his band, and noted that Fantômas played the sousaphone... badly.
