Dean Venture is one of the two titular central protagonists (alongside Hank Venture, his older twin brother by four minutes) of the 2003 Adult Swim program The Venture Bros. He is a parody of such boy adventurers The Hardy Boys and Jonny Quest. He is voiced by Michael Sinterniklaas.
Appearance
At the beginning of the series, Dean is sixteen years old, tall and thin, and wears his reddish-brown hair in a slightly longer style than his fraternal twin brother Hank. Of the two boys, Dean resembles more his father, Dr. Thaddeus Venture, in that he inherited Dr. Venture's red hair as well as a budding knack for super-science.
His face is freckled and he usually wears a sweater-vest over a button-up shirt with trousers that are slightly too short for his height, giving him an appearance highly reminiscent of Peter Parker. At bedtime, Dean wears Spider-Man pajamas.
In Season 4, Dean is shown to be wearing a speed suit and has begun developing a mustache, showing that he has properly aged since he now has a single body as a result of no longer having clones of himself. During his "emo and goth" phase, he dyes his hair black, wears black clothes and destroys his old vest and Spider-Man pajamas.
In Season 6, after moving to New York and enrolling in Stuyvesant University, he has dyed his hair back to its normal color and taken to wearing suits and his school's hoodie.
Personality
Dean is generally more shy, studious, and anxious like his father as opposed to his brother's outgoing and macho personality. He is often far more cautious and fearful, usually warning his brother against doing dangerous or foolhardy things which most of the time goes unheeded and earns him derision from his brother and leads to him being called a wuss. Dean even gets dizzy when he stands up too quickly and is often overpowered by his brother in horseplay. Compared to the hot-headed Hank, he is far more intelligent, logical, and more naive of the pair. Also, unlike Hank, Dean tends to avoid action and danger, and doesn't like going on adventures.
Unlike his brother, Dean initially showed more interest in science and it is shown throughout the show he has absorbed and utilized the knowledge from the learning beds which he has sometimes put to practical use such as rebuilding and repairing H.E.L.P.eR., helping Rusty build and later repair the shields on Gargantua -2, getting accepted into Stuyvestant University, and an internship at Impossible Industries.
Though reserved and naive, people seem to generally take to Dean. He is able to generate some interest from the otherwise cynical Triana Orpheus, and even got Monarch's Henchman 24 to open up to him. He also seems to have better luck with the opposite sex, as he bonds and gets along with them better, and doesn't seem to turn them off and away as Hank and Rusty often does, as he even manages to attract Hank's girlfriend Sirena Ong to him. Despite such, Dean tends to be a loner and doesn't seem to form any deep friendships and relationships with any of the characters from the show unlike Hank who has best friends such as Dermott and Brock.
After he and Triana fought and she moved away, Dean fell into a depression and experienced a serious existential crisis that caused him to begin distancing himself from his family, refusing to go on adventures, and started to question and reject the family business of super-science which only intensified after he discovered that he was a clone. It was Hank's positive reaction, outlook, and enthusiasm about being clones made Dean reevaluate his life, finally seeing that everything was alright and they had an amazing family. When they moved to New York in Season 6, Dean had more or less returned to his normal self, although more mature and less fearful, naive, and anxious. He also maintains his rebellious streak by looking to change his college major away from science and not wanting to follow in Rusty's footsteps.
Character History
Dean along with Hank was, "born" through artificial insemination and incubated through an artificial womb with eggs given to Dr. Venture from Mantilla. It's unknown how Dean and Hank became so different in attitude and personalities, but like Hank, he accompanied Dr. Venture on many adventures, and was taught and raised by the Learning Beds. Like Hank, Dean was also killed numerous times over the course of his life and has been cloned over 14 times. A flashback montage showing the boys' deaths seems to indicate that Dean may have died slightly less times than Hank.
In Are You There, God? It's Me, Dean Dean developed a severe case of acute testicular torsion. He was awkwardly unable to convey the location of his pain (other than "no-nos," "down there", or "in the rocks") and shyly refused to let his father examine him. After Pete White and Billy Quizboy were improbably able to correct the condition with emergency surgery, a parade of family and friends (including Triana) visited him while his crotch was wrapped in bandages. Dr. White thoughtfully presented Dean with an envelope containing the remains of his recently-grown pubic hair, since the operation required its removal, and Quizboy told Dean that during the operation, he had "hooked him up with the complete package," the meaning of which was lost on him.
In Eeney, Meeney, Miney... Magic!, Dean first met Triana and was infatuated with her almost at first sight. When Dean, Hank and Brock became trapped inside Dr. Venture's virtual reality fantasy-fulfillment Joy Can invention, Dean was able to find the way out through the power of true love when he heard Triana speak his name.
In Past Tense, Dean refuses to believe Hank's assertion that Brock kills bad guys; he insists childishly that the police carry them away in sleeping bags rather than body bags. When their father and Brock are both kidnapped soon afterwards, however, Dean thinks clearly enough to ask the original Team Venture for help in rescuing them while Hank panics.
Dean finally got a date with Triana in Victor. Echo. November., as part of a double date also which also included Hank and Triana's friend Kim, arranged by Dr. Venture and Dr. Orpheus as part of a deal involving the Orpheus' family's rent payments. The date went predictably badly, partially due to Hank's bizarre behavior and partially because The Phantom Limb, The Monarch and Doctor Girlfriend happened to be at the same restaurant, and an argument between the Limb and the Monarch led to the former calling in a Guild hit on the Venture family. Dean, however, performed admirably during the fiasco, although finally embarrassing himself with Hank at the date's conclusion.
When the Venture family was attacked and imprisoned on Ünderland by Baron Werner Ünderbheit on their way back from a costume party in Love-Bheits, Dean's Princess Leia costume caused the Baron to mistake him for a woman and take him as his latest wife. Dr. Venture, Brock and Hank were unable to stop the wedding from taking place, but when Dean revealed his true gender to the Baron, he was deposed for violating Ünderland's same-sex marriage ban law and the Venture family was able to depart with the blessings of the country's new, democratic government run by Catclops and Girl Hitler.
He helped the spirit of Abraham Lincoln save the current president in Guess Who's Coming to State Dinner by eventually building Lincoln a suit made of five-dollar bills, after unsuccessfully possessing Dean's body. To Dean's horror while under Lincoln's control he nearly kissed Hank. Lincoln (who indicated that he had access to Dean's memories) expressed knowledge that the boys had sexually experimented with each other previously.
In Showdown at Cremation Creek (Part II), Dean suffered an episode-long series of hallucinations based on The Neverending Story; while hallucinating he smashed the main engine of the Monarch's cocoon, causing it to crash. Many of the characters are surreal depictions of people he knows, such as Billy Quizboy appearing to him as Giant Boy Detective. As part of his hallucination, Dean freed some enslaved orphans, extolling the fact that they were now free to live normal lives. He goes on a diatribe reflecting his true feelings for his father and the life he has created for the boys. Dean, while seemingly more naive than his brother concerning the carnage and perversion that surrounds them, is actually quite aware of his often manic and abnormal life. His only wish is to live a life in his own room and away from the supervillains trying to kill him on a daily basis; this hints that he has repressed many of the awful things that surround him and uses his childlike nature as a sort of defense mechanism.
In Perchance to Dean, Rusty makes it official to Dean that he sees him as the favorite son and the heir to The Venture family's super-science legacy. To that end Rusty begins to forcibly groom him by giving Dean a speed suit, his own lab, a chemistry set, and an introduction to his sacred Progressive Rock collection. At the same time, one of the Dean clones that had been poorly developed and disposed of by Rusty, actually survived by living in the attic and constructing a suit out of the skins of the various iterations of Dean that have died over the years. The clone, code-named D-19, plotted to kill Dean and Hank in order to take his place as Rusty's rightful son. D-19 confronts and attempts to kill Dean (who thinks that the clone was a failed hair growth experiment) in order to use his skin to complete his skin suit copy of Dean, but thanks to the accidental efforts of a bumbling Hank, D-19 is killed, and Dean remained unaware that he was a clone.
In The Revenge Society as part of a plan by the The Sovereign to thwart Phantom Limb's attempt to take over the guild, he is revealed to be the rightful Sovereign of the Guild of Calamitous Intent owing to his blood descent from Colonel Lloyd Venture of the Victorian Era Guild. Dean then transfers his status and title back to The Sovereign, foiling Phantom Limb's plans.
In The Better Man, The Master, while appearing to Triana in the form of a middle-aged Dean, claims, among other things that Dean is uncircumcised, and will only be able to produce deformed children due to the amount of times he's been cloned. Though it's likely The Master was exaggerating at least some of his story to convince Triana to stay with her mother and become a sorceress.
In Bright Lights, Dean City, Dean moves to New York City to take on an internship with Professor Impossible, unaware that Impossible became a super-villain. Dean assists Impossible in interviewing new members for The Revenge Society until he discovers that Professor Impossible is working with Phantom Limb. He then attacks Underbheit, which causes Phantom Limb to shock him into unconsciousness. When Dean wakes up, Professor Impossible tells him that the Revenge Society is a super-criminal "back to work" organization to help former supervillains reintegrate into society, which Dean believes. At the same time, and much to Dean's annoyance, Rusty forcibly moves in with him to work on a Broadway musical. The Revenge Society learns about Rusty's musical and invites him to One Impossible Plaza as a trap. When he gets there, the current three members, alongside new members Lady-Hawk Johnson, Lyndon-Bee, and Fat Chance, ambush him. Dean tries to get help, but he accidentally reactivates Cody. Unaware that the only way to extinguish Cody is to put him to sleep, Dean releases him, thinking that he's just on fire. Phantom Limb tries to zap Rusty, but Fat Chance trips over his invisible leg and sucks Dr. Venture into an alternate universe. The fire caused by Cody spreads throughout One Impossible Plaza, destroying Rusty's musical.
In the season 4 finale Operation P.R.O.M., Dean has learned that Triana is dating another Raven and as result he has a falling out with her. After failing to win her back, Dean became more angry, rebellious, and acting out of his usual character such by cussing out Triana's stepfather The Outrider.
In What Color is Your Cleansuit?, Thalia meets Dean as he visits the campus of State University with Sgt. Hatred to recruit interns for the Palaemon Project. Bemused by Dean, Thalia signs up as an intern and the two develop a serious relationship. After Martin planned to use the ray shields to mutate the entire human race, Thalia persuaded Dean to challenge Martin for power as Lee-Hun-Took through a series of unorthodox challenges. Dean won, becoming the prophetic savior and winning the affections of Thalia, whom intended to rule the world in a peaceful society with him. Dean was elated to be the Lee-Hun-Took. Dean's revelry was short-lived, thanks to a combination of Dr. Mrs. The Monarch's genetically engineered anti-mutant monarch butterflies dropped in from the Cocoon and a foul gas concoction of "antibiotics and roofies" filtered through the air ducts by Doctor Thaddeus Venture. All of the mutant interns were returned to normal, and everyone inside fell into a drug high that made them forget everything about what happened. Both Thalia and Martin were returned to normal with only hazy dreams of what had happened. When Dean spotted her, he vaguely recalled kissing her but this was not believed by Dermott and Hank.
By A Very Venture Halloween, Dean's angry and rebellious streak led him to the part of the compound that he was once too afraid to go to and meets Ben, who explains to Dean that he and Hank are clones. This revelation left him at a loss of what to do or think. As such, Dean realized the negative effects of going on adventures and the learning beds and became more rebellious. He moved into D-79's old space in the attic and refused to come with the team on adventures and became a total recluse. He dyed his hair jet black, destroys his learning bed, his old sweater vest, his Bizzy Bee wallet, his Spider-Man pajamas, and his Giant Boy Detective books. In the Season 5 finale, Dean finally tells Hank about their status as clones but unlike Dean, Hank has a more optimistic view of the information and tells the surprised Dean that it is one of the good things of being a Venture. His brother's happy outlook, lift Dean's spirits and he is able to move past his depression and end his angry streak.
During All This and Gargantua-2, he has more or less returned to his normal self and has amended his relationship with his family. He assists Rusty in repairing the damaged shields from asteroids, helping save the space station and everyone on it from destruction.
In Season 6, when the family has moved to New York, Dean attends Stuyvesant University, he considers majoring in something that isn't science related. Despite that, he still spends time with the family and gives Rusty good advice on on how to run the company and helps Hank on his date with Sirena Ong.
In The Curse of the Haunted Problem, strange things begin happening at the VenTech Tower. Fearing that the building is possessed, Dean asks Dr. Orpheus for help who discovers the still living head of Jonas Venture Sr. in the PROBLEM machine is causing the strange issues. Dean was shocked to finally meet his grandfather, though he ran out the building when Jonas took control of it. Dean then witnessed The Blue Morpho arriving on the scene. In Arrears in Science, while outside the tower, Dean tells Hank that their grandfather was still alive, to Hank's excitement. However, Dean warned him not to and soon watches as Jonas and Morpho are ejected out.
Two months later, in The High Cost of Loathing, Dean decides to move into the dorms at Stuyvesant University, and becomes the dorm mate of the Brown Widow. Rusty, still seeing him as a favorite, gives Dean a blank checkbook to spend on whatever he wants. Dean found someone to relate to in Professor Victor Von Helping who, like Dean, rebelled against and rejected following in the footsteps of his father, Vigo Von Hellfire. Dean also found common ground with Sirena who is also dissatisfied with her father and the world of super-science and villainy. During class, The Monarch attacks, looking to kill Von Helping in order boost his Guild ranking. Von Helping fights back and was ready to destroy The Monarch when Dean rose to the occasion by aggressively and confidently confronting The Monarch, writing him a check for $1 million dollars, demanding he leave Von Helping alone. Sirena, impressed by Dean's confidence, in addition to his more real and authentic personality compared to Hank's, and the things they share in common, decided to date Dean instead and the two begin having an affair.
During The Forecast Manufacturer, Hank catches Sirena and Dean having sex. That, Hanks injury, and the sight of the Scare Bear causes Hank to lose consciousness and fall into a coma.
In The Saphrax Protocol a sad and guilt ridden Dean spends all night by his comatose brother. He begins reciting to Hank of a long list of reasons why he has been a terrible brother to Hank. Dean also admitted being upset that he and Hank weren't close anymore and that he was jealous of his carefree attitude that allows him to dress as The Bat in public without shame. Dean decided to repair the rift between them by telling the unconscious Hank everything that he had learned in the past year, such as the full truth of Dermott's relation to the Venture family, Hank losing his virginity to Dermott's true mother, their father being a clone, and H.E.L.P.eR. having a "brother".
After his confession, Dean fell asleep in the hospital only to be awakened by the night nurse, Cindy Marie Abrams who tells him that Hank disappeared from his bed, causing Dean to run outside to look for him, but Hank had already disappeared into the crowd using his Batman mask as a disguise.
By Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart, Dean is leading the search for the still missing Hank along with Brock and the OSI, but they have trouble locating him. However, after Mantilla's attack on OSI that causes them to call off the search, and Rusty seemingly not caring at all about Hank, Dean turns to Dr. Orpheus and the Order of the Triad for help. Orpheus correctly deduces that Hank went back to the old Venture Compound. With the help of Jefferson Twilight, they go on a road trip back to Colorado to find Hank. While staying the night at Jefferson's old room in Chicago, they are attacked by Blacula's. While they are able to escape, two small holes appear on Dean's neck, leading for him to believe that he was bitten. He becomes so anxious and scared, that he starts to mimic vampire behavior. Dean and the team were able to find unconscious Hank at Bobbi St. Simone's house. With the help of The Triad, Dean enters, purgatory where he rescues Hank from his other alter-egos that attack him and helps him restore his consciousness. Jefferson also reassures Dean that the two "bite marks" are really from his vampire tooth necklace that happened while Jefferson rescued Dean. Later, he is at Ben's house when he announces Rusty and The Monarch are clones.
Relationships
Family
Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture
In the early seasons, Rusty is for the most part, shown to be a reluctant father. He frequently expresses nothing but annoyance towards the boys, and shows a general lack of concern over their well-being, sometimes wondering where they are only after they have been missing for many hours. In one instance, Dean admits that Dr. Venture sometimes calls him Don or Dave, implying that he can not be bothered to remember his sons' names.
Upon recognizing Dean's intellect and intelligence, curious nature, and mild mannered personality (especially when compared to Hank's), Rusty considers Dean to be his favorite son and formally makes him the heir to the family legacy of super-science. To that end, Rusty buys him his first "speed suit" -- which turned out to be an identical version of the short-sleeved jumpsuit his father habitually wears and decides to start Dean's super-science training, giving him access to his "Egg": a chair he listens to progressive rock records on for inspiration. He also gives Dean his very own miniature lab in the panic room, to keep him from distractions. Dean takes to both and tries to grow his hair back, only to think he accidentally cloned himself in the form of clone D-19. When Dean moves to New York for his internship at Impossible Industries, a very happy Rusty moves in with him. In, Any Which Way But Zeus, when Rusty is supposedly kidnapped and Hatred accidentally mumbled Dean's name, Rusty was quick to tell them to take him instead of Dean showing concern for his son.
After finding out he was a clone, Dean adopted more rebellious and sarcastic personality which caused him to distance himself from Rusty. However, Dean still loved his father as in The Devil's Grip he was very shocked to learn that his father might be dead but held on the belief of the latter still being alive which turned out to be true. In All This and Gargantua-2, Dean has amended his relationship with his father even managing to encourage the latter in the space station's darkest hour. In return, Thaddeus was very proud and impressed with Dean's quick thinking and intelligence which ended up saving the space station.
Rusty's favoritism of Dean increases after Dean is accepted into Stuyvesant University. Rusty agrees to pay for Deans tuition and even gives him a blank checkbook for him to spend on whatever he wants and didn't care when he wrote a million dollar check to The Monarch. This is in contrast to Hank who he threatened to cut off, demands he moves out and get a job, and seemingly didn't visit or even care when Hank fell into a coma and went missing afterward.
Hank Venture
Like many teenage siblings, Hank serves as both best friend and worst enemy to Dean and vice versa. On a moment's notice, they switch from wrestling with each other to enthusiastically pursuing a new adventure together. The two are shown to contrasting personalities as Hank is more outgoing and hot headed compared to Dean and this usually causes a few disagreements between them. Dean at times finds himself being used by Hank which a majority of the time puts both of them in trouble with their father and evil villains.
Both siblings, however, show a tendency to lose touch with reality more suited to much younger boys as they tend to speak and act in an oddly quaint manner, using interjections like "Golly!" and "Gee whiz!" despite the modern-day setting of the show. This is largely a comical acknowledgment of the works they parody (such as the above-mentioned Hardy Boys and Johnny Quest).
Despite their differing personalities, Hank was able to help Dean out of his depression in the season 5 finale when Dean told him they were clones. The news does not upset Hank but rather excites him about being apart of their family and this outlook moves Dean out of his depression. In the season 6, Hank goes to Dean for advice on dating but while his brother knew nothing on the subject and brushed him off by telling him to be himself. In It Happening One Night, Dean helps Hank out on his date with Sirena Ong and is happy when his efforts pay off and Hank impresses Sirena.
During The Forecast Manufacturer, it is shown he betrays Hank by having an affair with his girlfriend Sirena. In The Saphrax Protocol a sad and guilty Dean, felt bad about his actions, reciting to him a long list of reasons why he has been a terrible brother to Hank. Dean also admitted being upset that he and Hank weren't close anymore and jealous of his carefree attitude that allows him to dress as The Bat in public without shame. Dean decided to repair their rift by telling the unconscious Hank everything that he had learned in the past year, including Dermott's relation to the Venture family, their father being a clone, and H.E.L.P.eR. having a "brother". He also expressed concern when the nurse told him Hank disappeared from his bed, running outside to look for him. In Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart, Dean leads the effort in trying to find Hank over Rusty, whose nonchalant attitude about Hank's disappearance frustrates him and causes friction with Rusty.
Jonas Venture Jr.
Is Thaddeus' twin brother and uncle of the Venture brothers. In the Season one finale, Jonas emerges from his brother's body but after a series of events he is officially welcomed into the family. Dean along with his brother were both surprised and happy over having an uncle and expressed fascination over how their uncle was "born". Not much is known about the relationship Dean held with his uncle but what is known is that JJ loved the pair as he entrusted with the X-X-1 to search for the device of Jonas Venture Sr. In Guess Who's Coming to State Dinner, while trying break Thaddeus' force field Jonas Jr. was very happy to see Dean and called him "nephew". In All This and Gargantua-2, Dean was also very sad at his uncle's funeral and seemed hopeful when he thought Dr. Orpheus intended to resurrect him but was dejected when it turned out he was referring to Dean's old stuffed animal.
Dermott Fictel
Dean first met Dermott in The Buddy System, where Dean angrily fought the latter for being rude and insulting Triana. Since then two settled into having a quiet dislike for each other which seems to been forgotten as they now seem to get along better. In Operation P.R.O.M., Dermott even attempts to help Dean win back Triana. It is revealed in The Saphrax Protocol, that Dean is fully aware of Dermott's heritage after his father told him in a drunk moment.
Jonas Venture Sr.
Jonas Sr. is Dean's paternal grandfather, Dean never met him but always wanted to after hearing that he was famous. It was because of Jonas' legacy that Dean felt pressure in following his father's footsteps as a scientist. During The Curse of the Haunted Problem, Jonas taking control of the tower led to Dean contacting Dr. Orpheus who discovered the still living head of Jonas. Dean was shocked to finally meet his grandfather, though ran out the building when Jonas took control of it. In Arrears in Science, Dean informs Hank of what occurred in their home and told him that their grandfather was still alive, to Hank's excitement.
Brock Samson
Is the Venture family's bodyguard, who usually treats the boys with more respect and affection than does their father, dispensing advice and showing a good deal more patience with their immaturity. In The Buddy System, Brock attempts to teach Dean how to fight but is unable to make progress with him however, he is proud when Dean beats up Dermott Fictel. In Faking Miracles, Brock helps Dean with his college entry exams and shows massive concern when Dean goes through numerous stages which is later revealed to be nano-technology. However, he doesn't seem to be as close to Brock compared to Hank.
Dr. Orpheus
Dean and Dr. Orpheus maintain a good relationship throughout the series, even after he and Triana had their falling out. Orpheus in turn has fatherly feelings towards him than does Rusty sometimes. In All This and Gargantua-2, at the funeral of Jonas Venture Jr., Orpheus tries to comfort Dean by restoring his stuffed giraffe. Orpheus is well aware of Dean's past infatuation with his daughter, even exploiting it to aid in rescuing Dr. Venture from a trap by tracing back his heightened emotion. Unlike Rusty, Dean believes in magic and Orpheus's powers, and often goes to the doctor to ask for help with family issues, such as when he thought the Ventech Tower was possessed, or when he needed help to find Hank.
Romantic
Triana Orpheus
While both boys express a vague, wide-eyed interest in "pretty girls," Dean became particularly smitten with Triana Orpheus, the teenage daughter of Dr. Orpheus. Initially, he manages to embarrasses himself in Triana's presence. In private, he engages in childish fantasies of rescuing her from dangerous situations and "practices being a boyfriend" with her. Triana showed no sign so far that she knows about Dean's feelings for her, however on several separate occasions, she did describe him as "kind of cute" and even admitted this to him. In the episode The Buddy System, he indicated his feelings were not completely unrequited. Notably in this episode, he attacked and beat up Dermott Fictel in a hysterical fit after Dermott was "very rude" to Triana. This leads to a photo from the subsequent montage sequence to show Triana fawning over Dean flexing his biceps. In The Better Man after Triana decides to move in with her mother, Dean ends their "relationship" largely for thinking a long distance relationship is too much trouble.
Dean later asks Triana to be his date in Operation P.R.O.M. when he learns that she is dating Raven which leaves him heart-broken. As a result, he gets into an argument with her which leads them having a major falling out. Dean later tries to win her back but fails miserably. Triana's departure left a large impact on Dean as he adopted more serious and darker personality and caused him to hold Triana in contempt. Dean later moves on from Triana after his brother's positive attitude moves him past his depression.
Thalia
In What Color is Your Cleansuit?, Thalia meets Dean Venture as he visits the campus of State University with Sgt. Hatred to recruit interns for the Palaemon Project. Dean became immediately smitten with her, and clumsily in his usual bumbling ways, flirts with her. Bemused, Thalia signs up as an intern. The two stay close and attracted to each other even after Thalia becomes a mutant, effectively becoming Dean's first real date and girlfriend. When her fellow student mutant intern Martin planned to use the Gargantua-2 Ray Shields to turn all of humanity into mutants and take over the world, Thalia persuades Dean to challenge Martin for power as Lee-Hun-Took. Through a series of unorthodox challenges. Dean won, becoming the prophetic savior and winning the affections of Thalia, whom intended to rule the world in a peaceful society as his queen. When all of the mutant interns were returned to normal, Thalia had only hazy dreams of what had happened. When Dean spotted her, he vaguely recalled kissing her but this was not believed by Dermott and Hank. After this incident, Thalia returned to State University and never seemed to speak to Dean ever again.
Sirena Ong
While they meet in the episode It Happening One Night, when Dean helps Hank impress Sirena, it wasn't until they were in the same class in The High Cost of Loathing, when they finally interact. In doing so, they realize they share a lot in common as both being genetically altered, both looking to reject their father's plans for them in continuing in the family business, and in general, the rejecting the hero and villain arching lifestyle. She becomes more attracted to him after he bravely and confidently fends off The Monarch, and they begin having an affair behind Hank's back and Dean loses his virginity to her. It's never made clear why Dean reciprocated Sirena's feelings towards to him, knowing that she was dating his brother, but he felt massively guilty for doing so. In Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart, it appears that he is no longer on speaking terms with Sirena.
Trivia
- Dean is left-handed.
- Of the two boys, Dean seems to be more interested in who his mother is.
- His favorite books are the Giant Boy Detective series.
- Ben has diagnosed Dean with early symptoms of male pattern baldness, suggesting Dean will lose his hair as he gets older. The Master implies the same when he takes the form of a balding future version of Dean in The Better Man.
- Dean had an undiagnosed stomach ulcer until the events of Faking Miracles, when his father and his father's friends inadvertently cured him of it.
- As of Faking Miracles, large amounts of nano-material entered Dean's body while some have exited his body. Dean still has bits of nano-tech left in his brain as his father placed them there for safekeeping
- He is the only one of Rusty's sons to meet his grandfather.
- Both Hank and Dean are implied to be significantly older than they appear, due to their frequent cloning repeatedly resetting their biological ages to 16. Though their true chronological ages are never revealed, it's suggested that (had they never died) both would be in their early-to-mid 20s.
