Bobbie St. Simone is a character who has been mentioned and appeared once, as an unnamed background character, on The Venture Bros.. She was revealed during the events of the show's movie Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart. She was voiced by Jane Lynch.

Character History

In the 1960s, Bobbie St. Simone was a small time actress and model working on the show "Follow that Bikini" at the Isotope Pictures studio, when she met and befriended Jonas Venture, Sr. He invited her back to the The Venture Compound, where he gave her invisibility powers in exchange for sex. As she was leaving in the morning, she encountered a young Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture, who he thought she was his mother. Charmed by him, she gave him an autographed photo of her as a memento and returned to Hollywood. After Follow that Bikini was canceled, she had trouble finding new roles as she could not control the negative side effects of her invisibility powers. She returned to Jonas, begging him to remove her powers, but he instead blackmailed and forced her into the Office of Secret Intelligence as one of their agents. Her first assignment was to infiltrate The Guild of Calamitous Intent in order to gather intelligence on Force Majeure and other Guild members. She instead fell in love with Majeure, had a daughter with him, Debra, and switched sides to join The Guild, committing crimes on their behalf. After The Sovereign killed Majuere and took over The Guild, Bobbi fearing for her safety, took Debra and left The Guild. After a decade on the run, and following Jonas's death, she approached Rusty asking if he would be able to remove her powers which he agreed. He succeeded by transferring them to Debra in exchange for some "stuff" from her, implied to be her eggs, which he used to give birth to his sons. Bobbi had finally got what she wanted as far as losing her powers.

After the procedure, Bobbi had bought some land nearby and created the Caring Hands Second Hand Ranch, an animal sanctuary dedicated to the animals and pets affected by super-science that she and her daughter ran and worked on alone. Debra found this life boring and beneath someone of her powers and intelligence, and began to rebel against Bobbi. First by dating The Monarch, who she broke up with after Bobbi disapproved, and later running away from the ranch to undertake her own supervillain career in response. Bobbi ran the ranch alone and was frequently visited by Dean and Hank that thought that Bobbi was their real mother based off the autographed photo Rusty kept of her. She would often tell them the truth that she was not and send them away. In Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart, Hank visits the ranch based on information he learned from The Action Man when they were both in purgatory that Bobbi is his real mother. After Bobbi tells him the truth and that she had told him and Dean this many times before (as past clone versions of Hank and Dean that were killed and why they don't remember her), Hank faints from the shock, relapses into a coma, and returns to purgatory. Dean, Dr. Orpheus, and Jefferson Twilight, arrive at the ranch and save Hank.

Trivia

  • It is as yet undetermined whether her name is a reference to Robert "Bobby" Simone, the detective character played by Jimmy Smits on the police procedural NYPD Blue.
  • While Bobbi's powers resemble that of The Fantastic Four's Invisible Woman, her outfit resembles that of the X-Men's Alison Blaire (Dazzler) from her first appearance in THE UNCANNY X-MEN #130.
  • While the movie revealed that Bobbi was not Dean and Hank Venture's mother, it is implied that her daughter Debra St. Simone, is the boys' true mother [albeit genetically speaking]. This would instead make Bobbi their grandmother.
  • Bobbi St. Simone and her Caring Hands animal sanctuary are primarily based on The Birds actress Tippi Hedren, who has been an animal rescue activist since 1969 and founded the American Sanctuary Association in 1998, still serving as its president to this day.
  • The OSI agents with Jonas Venture, Sr., are killed by The Intangible Fancy in The Revenge Society.
